Saturn’s Auroras

Cassini has captured a picture and a movie of Saturn’s auroras over a two-day period. The movie can be found at:http://www.nasa.gov/mov/484318main_PIA13404.mov. This movie is actually 20 hours speed up to a couple of seconds long. These auroras are created similarly to the way Earth’s auroras are formed; solar wind is directed to the poles were they interact with plasma* in the atmosphere creating light, but also auroras on Saturn can appear when electromagnetic waves are admitted when the moons intercept the plasma*.

*plasma is like gas were some of the partials are ionized
